Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac and is most often symbolised by the Twins. These known as the Dioskouroi (Castor and Pollux) in Greek mythology. Castor and Pollux being the two brightest stars in the constellation of Gemini. Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the orb closest to the sun. Since Mercury is associated with the idea of velocity, Gemini is also said to have a quick and agile mind.
The astrological symbol used most often for Gemini closely resembles the Roman 2 (II) and this is reflected in the idea of Gemini having a dual nature. The two upright lines in this symbol have a connection at both their head and foot and this gives across the ideas of internal communication and a great skill in the conveyance of information. Gemini therefore, is seen to be the great communicator and is thus associated with the storytellers and the great poets of antiquity.
Gemini is one of the three Air signs. The other two air signs are Libra and Aquarius. Just like Aries, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius, it is said that Gemini is positive in polarity which makes them extrovert in personality and outgoing in general rather than being withdrawn or overly sensitive.
